What "clear" actually means

There is no white layer under the print. Ink goes onto transparent film, and every part of the sheet you left empty stays see-through — so on a jar the design reads as if it were printed on the glass, with no rectangle or outline around it.

That is the whole appeal, and it is also the whole trade. Ink is not paint: it sits on top of whatever is behind it. A pale grey line over dark glass will come out barely visible, because there is nothing behind the grey to hold it up.

Where white wins

White vinyl prints on an opaque base, so a logo looks identical on a black laptop lid and a kraft mailer. If the sticker will land on surfaces you do not control — giveaways, packaging that changes, whatever a customer sticks it to — white is the safe answer, and it is why it is our default.

It also carries a design with soft colors, thin lines or a drop shadow, all of which need something behind them.
