How to get it right
Why 24x36 is the default size
It reads across a room. A headline at the top of a 24x36 poster is legible from ten or fifteen feet, which is the distance at which people actually decide whether to walk over. It is also the largest of the standard sizes that ready-made frames are sold for almost everywhere, so a 24x36 print never leaves you hunting for a frame. Below it, 18x24 is the size for noticeboards and crowded walls; above it, you are into large format.
Getting a file ready for 24x36
Send a vector PDF, AI or EPS if you have one - type and logos stay perfectly sharp at every poster size. A photograph or a raster design needs to be around 7200 by 10800 pixels to be printed at 300 DPI at full size; less than that still prints, but fine detail softens as the resolution drops. A phone photo that looks good on screen can look soft at 24x36. Our designer checks every file before the proof and tells you if the resolution will show.
Paper, framing and how it arrives
Posters print on professional semi-gloss paper: rich color without the heavy glare of full gloss, and a surface that does not fuse to frame glass when the humidity changes, so a framed print can come out again undamaged. Production is two business days after you approve the proof; shipping is free and takes 3-5 business days, rolled in a sturdy mailing tube so the print arrives without a crease.
Hanging a 24x36 poster without a frame
A 24x36 print is large enough that a single strip of poster tape in each corner is not enough - the middle third of the top edge will bow forward over time. Use removable poster strips along both long edges, spaced every eight to ten inches, or four strips near each corner plus two centered on the top and bottom. Removable strips are made to come off painted walls without damage, which matters if the poster is a rental or a gift you might move later. Avoid regular tape directly on the printed surface - even where it does not tear the paper on removal, it can leave a shiny mark on the semi-gloss finish. If the poster is going into a frame instead, none of this applies: the paper sits under glass and holds itself flat with no adhesive at all.
A 24x36 as a photo gift
A favorite photo blown up to 24x36 is one of the more popular reasons people order a single poster rather than a run - a family beach shot, an engagement photo, a pet portrait for someone's first apartment. Because it ships rolled in a tube with tracking, you can have it sent straight to the recipient instead of to yourself, which is worth doing for a birthday or a housewarming where the size is the surprise. The one thing to check before ordering is the photo itself: a picture that looks sharp on a phone screen can still be too low-resolution for a poster this size, so upload the original file rather than a copy, and let the designer confirm it before you approve the proof.
Questions people ask about these
How much does it cost to print a 24x36 poster?
The calculator shows the live price the moment you pick the size - one poster is a normal order here, and shipping is free on every order.
Can I order just one 24x36 poster?
Yes. The online minimum is one poster per design, with the same free proof as a larger run.
What resolution do I need for 24x36?
A vector PDF, AI or EPS is ideal. For a photo or raster file, about 7200 by 10800 pixels gives 300 DPI at full size. Lower resolutions still print, just softer, and our designer tells you before the proof if it will show.
Will the poster stick to the glass if I frame it?
No. The semi-gloss surface is made not to fuse to frame glass the way fully glossy prints can when humidity changes, so you can reframe or rotate it without damage.
How is a 24x36 poster shipped?
Rolled in a sturdy mailing tube, never folded, with free US shipping taking 3-5 business days after two business days in production.
Can I hang it outside?
No - the paper is made for indoor walls and windows. For anything outdoors, a vinyl sticker or a window cling on the inside of the glass is the right product.
What's a safe way to hang a 24x36 poster without damaging the wall?
Removable poster strips along both long edges, spaced every eight to ten inches, hold a 24x36 print flat and are made to come off without damaging paint. A single strip in each corner is usually not enough at this size - the top edge tends to bow forward.
