How to get it right
Why a cling and not a sticker on a shop window
A vinyl sticker is permanent by design - that is exactly what you want on a laptop or a hard hat, and exactly what you do not want on a window that changes every season. A cling has no adhesive at all. It goes on clean glass, holds by static, peels off in one piece and leaves no residue, so the same window can carry a sale in March and opening hours in April. For glass that is fully exposed to wind and rain, a vinyl sticker is still the better call: clings hold best indoors, and outdoors only on shaded or protected surfaces.
Inside the glass or outside: mirror printing
If the cling goes on the inside of a storefront window and has to be read from the street, the artwork has to be printed mirrored, or the text reads backward from outside. Pick normal or mirror in the calculator and we confirm which side it is going on in the free proof, so the orientation is settled before anything reaches the press.
Clear or white, and what size the glass takes
Clear film lets the street show through and suits decorative work; white film has a solid backing and stays readable with daylight behind it, which is why it is the usual choice for storefront signage. Sizes run from 4" to 48" on the longer side, as a circle, square, rectangle or a die cut following your own outline. This page opens the calculator at 18" - change it to whatever your glass needs.
Window clings or window decals: which one you need
A window cling holds by static, with no glue: it usually goes on the inside of the glass, comes off in one piece and can go back up next season. A window decal is vinyl with a permanent adhesive: it is the choice for a logo or opening hours that stay for years, and the one to pick for glass that faces rain and wind. If the message changes - a sale, a holiday, a hiring sign - choose a cling. If it is part of the storefront, choose a decal.
Questions people ask about these
Will it stay up on a shop window all season?
Indoors on clean glass, yes - static cling holds on smooth non-porous surfaces without any adhesive and stays as long as you want it there. Outdoors it holds on shaded or protected glass, but heavy wind and rain can lift the edges over time; for a fully exposed window we would print vinyl stickers instead.
Can I take it down and put it back up next year?
Yes, and that is the main advantage over adhesive vinyl. Peel it off, store it flat between two sheets of paper, and put it back up later. Each application leaves zero residue on the glass, so a seasonal display comes down without leaving anything to clean off the window.
How do I get it onto the window without bubbles?
Clean the glass first - this matters more than anything else, because the film attracts dust and one small particle stops it clinging evenly. Mist the glass with plain water, not glass cleaner, and put a few drops on the printed side as well. Place the cling while the glass is still wet so you can slide it into position, then smooth from the center outward with a soft squeegee or a card wrapped in cloth, pushing water and air toward the edges. Once the water dries it holds on its own.
Does a cling work on a painted wall or a plastic sign?
It is made for glass. Smooth, non-porous, genuinely clean glass is where static does its work. Painted drywall, textured plastic and frosted panels do not hold it reliably, and no amount of pressing fixes that - the film is not sticky, so there is nothing to press. For those surfaces order vinyl stickers.
How long does a window cling order take?
Clings go into production two business days after you approve the free proof, and US shipping is free with 3-5 business days in transit. If the display has a date on it, count back from that date and leave the proof a day of its own.
Can I order just one window cling?
Yes. Clings are sold from a single piece, so one cling for one door is a normal order, and larger quantities lower the price per piece.
What is the difference between a window cling and a window decal?
A cling holds by static with no adhesive and peels off clean, so it suits changing messages. A decal has a permanent adhesive and suits marks that stay - a logo, hours, an address.
