How to get it right
Neck, body or both
A 12 oz bottle gives you two places to label. The body label is the main one, with the beer name, the style and the batch; a smaller neck label can carry a logo or the brew date. Measure the curve of the body before you commit to a height, because a label that is too tall will wrinkle at the edges. If you brew in cans, put the label on the smooth wall and keep it clear of the seams. A badge or shield outline is a classic for homebrew, and it costs the same as a plain rectangle.
One design per batch
Every label in a run is identical, so a new beer is a new design. That works in your favor: a pale ale, a stout and a seasonal each get their own artwork, their own quantity and their own free proof as separate items in the cart. Brew a double batch? Order a larger quantity of that one design. Brewing for a party or a wedding? Print a one-off label with the date and the guest of honor, and check the labeling rules that apply to anything you plan to sell.
Ice buckets and cold storage
A beer label spends its life wet. Bottles come out of a cooler dripping, sit in an ice bucket at a tailgate and get passed around with wet hands. Paper labels slide off and tear. Laminated vinyl is waterproof and does not absorb water, so the label stays put and the print stays clear. Apply it to a clean, dry bottle, press from the center out, and let it set before the bottle goes cold. Glossy makes a hop-green or amber design pop; matte gives a rustic, taproom feel. If your bottles go into a crowded cooler, choose the finish that still looks good when it is damp.
Questions people ask about these
What size label fits a 12 oz beer bottle?
Measure the straight part of your bottle and keep the label inside it. A 3 x 3.5 inch badge is a good start, and the calculator accepts any custom size you need.
Can I get a die-cut shape for my beer label?
Yes. We cut any outline at no extra charge, so a shield, a hop leaf or a plain circle all cost the same. The proof shows the cut line.
Will the labels survive an ice bucket?
Yes. They are printed on laminated vinyl, which is waterproof, so meltwater and condensation will not make them run or peel off a clean, dry bottle.
Can I label each batch differently?
Yes. Each design is its own item in the cart, with its own quantity and its own free proof, so every beer in your lineup can have its own label.
Do you print labels for cans too?
You can put a label on a smooth can wall. Measure the area and keep it clear of seams and the rim; this page is set up mainly for bottles.
How soon will my beer labels ship?
They go out the next business day after you approve the proof, and shipping is free in the US. For most files the proof shows on screen in seconds; otherwise a designer emails it, usually within 1 business day.
