How to get it right
Project logos and laptop stacks
Hexagons are a favorite shape for open-source project logos, meetup badges and conference giveaways, and a lid covered in them looks like a collection. Regular hexagons share edges, so a set can sit side by side with no wasted space. Order every hexagon in one size if you want them to line up, and in one finish, glossy or matte, so they match. A project sticker holds one mark and, at most, a name, because a laptop sticker is read from a few feet away. Each design is its own item in the cart, with its own quantity and its own free proof.
Drawing the hexagon to fit
A regular hexagon is not as wide flat to flat as it is point to point. At 2 inches point to point it measures about 1.7 inches flat to flat, so decide which direction gets the full 2 inches and draw the outline to match. Send your file with the hexagon as the outer edge, and the designer sets the cut line along it; the proof shows exactly where the cut falls. Keep type and fine detail clear of the edge so nothing is lost at the cut. Any other outline costs the same, so a set can mix hexagons with a circle or a custom mascot shape.
Beyond the lid: packaging, giveaways and backing sheets
A hexagon seal closes a mailer or a tissue wrap, and it looks deliberate on a product box. A meetup or a conference can hand one out at check-in and reorder the same design for the next event. Can you cut stickers in the shape of a hexagon?
