How to get it right
A band, a box or a bare bar
Most handmade soap is sold in one of three ways. On a kraft band, a round label across the join closes the band and gives your brand a face. On a box, a larger label can go on the lid or the front, with the scent name beside it. A bare bar needs a label only if you are happy to press it onto the soap, which is not what this label is for. Measure the width of your bar or band, and keep the label small enough that paper still shows around it.
Looks handmade, holds up wet
Matte laminate has a soft, uncoated look that suits botanicals, herbs and natural colors, while glossy gives a cleaner, more polished finish. Both are waterproof, so a bar that sits in a humid bathroom or a market stall in the rain will not turn the label limp. If your soap sweats or the band has a greasy patch, put the label on the dry paper. A few scents and colors in one family share a design style but each needs its own design.
Names, scents and ingredient lists
A round soap label has room for your name, a scent and one small mark, and no more. If your product needs an ingredient list or other required wording, put it on a larger label or a tag, and check the cosmetic and soap labeling rules that apply to your product. Every label in a run prints the same, so each scent that has its own name is its own design, with its own quantity and its own free proof. Market sellers often order one logo seal for all scents and add the scent name with a stamp.
Questions people ask about these
What size soap label should I order?
Measure the width of your bar or kraft band. Two inches across is a good round seal for a standard-size bar, and any custom size is available in the calculator.
Can I put the label straight on a bar of soap?
We recommend putting it on the wrapper, band or box. These labels are made for packaging, not for pressing onto the soap itself.
Will the label last in a damp bathroom?
Yes. It is printed on laminated vinyl, which is waterproof and dishwasher-safe, so humidity and splashes will not make it curl or run.
Can the label go on a soap box instead of a band?
Yes. A box has a flat lid or front, so it can take a larger label than a band. Measure that face and enter the size in the calculator, or keep the 2-inch circle as a seal on the box flap.
Do I need to list ingredients on my soap label?
Soap and cosmetic products can have labeling rules, including ingredient lists. Check the rules that apply to your product, and use a larger label or a tag if you need more space.
Can I order a label for each scent?
Yes. Each scent is its own design, with its own quantity and its own free proof, in the same shape and size if you want the line to match.
