How to get it right
Filling a feature wall at 20x30
At this size a single print carries a wall on its own - above a sofa, a bed, a fireplace, or behind a reception desk - without needing a second piece next to it for balance. It reads clearly from six to ten feet away, which is the typical distance across a living room or lobby, so detail that would get lost at a smaller size still holds up. Where 16x20 works as one piece in an arrangement, 20x30 is usually the whole arrangement by itself, and a single well-placed print here often looks more deliberate than two smaller ones side by side.
Why the 2:3 ratio matters here
Full-frame and APS-C cameras shoot in a 2:3 ratio, and 20x30 is exactly that shape - so a photo taken straight off the camera fills the print with nothing trimmed from the edges. Most phones default to 4:3, which needs a slight crop at this size. Compare that to 16x20, which is 4:5 and needs a photo cropped to fit. If you're printing a photograph rather than a designed piece, 20x30 (and 12x18, at the same ratio) is the size that respects the original frame the camera captured. If your file is a different ratio, the proof shows exactly where the crop falls before anything prints, so there's no surprise once it arrives.
Getting the file right at this size
A vector PDF, AI or EPS file is ideal for anything with text or logos. A photo or raster design should be around 6000 by 9000 pixels for 300 DPI at full size - a phone photo enlarged this far can start to look soft, so check the original resolution before you upload, and keep the full-size file on hand in case you want to reorder at a different size later. Production is two business days after proof approval, and because 20x30 is well past our 15-inch cutoff, it ships rolled in a sturdy tube.
Questions people ask about these
Is 20x30 a standard poster size?
Yes - it's one of our sixteen standard sizes, with the same 2:3 shape as 24x36 and 12x18.
How much does a 20x30 poster cost?
The price updates the instant you choose 20x30 in the calculator, with free shipping included.
Does a 20x30 poster crop my photo?
Not if it was shot in 2:3, the ratio DSLR and mirrorless cameras use. A phone photo is usually 4:3, so the proof shows where a slight crop falls.
Does 20x30 ship rolled or flat?
Rolled, in a sturdy tube - 20x30 is well past the 15-inch mark where flat shipping stops.
What resolution do I need for a sharp 20x30 print?
About 6000 by 9000 pixels at 300 DPI, or a vector PDF, AI or EPS file - our designer looks it over before the proof.
How do I frame a 20x30 poster?
Ready-made 20x30 frames are available, or a custom framer can add a mat; the semi-gloss paper won't stick to the glass either way.
