How to get it right
One family name on every gift
The gifts you make at home are all different: jam, gingerbread, hot cocoa mix, candles. A single round label with your family name and a greeting ties them together. Keep the design simple: a name, one short line such as the year or a holiday wish, and one small drawing. Because the same label goes on every gift, you order one design in the quantity you need, rather than a different label for each recipe. If you want a second design, for example one for gifts to neighbors and one for the cookie tins, it is its own item in the cart with its own proof.
Round 2 inch for lids, larger for bags and boxes
Measure the top of your jar lid and compare it with a paper circle before you order. A circle of 2 inches suits most small jar lids and also works as a seal across the fold of a cellophane bag. Gift boxes and larger tins can take 3 inches, and the calculator accepts any size you enter. The label carries the name and the greeting, not the ingredient list. If a gift needs the ingredients, write them on a handwritten tag tied to the jar, which also lets you change them from batch to batch. If you sell what you make, check the labeling rules that apply to your product.
Order before the baking starts
Count backward from the day you wrap. Most orders ship the next business day after you approve the proof, and USPS delivery takes 3 to 5 business days, so the labels need to be approved well before the day you start filling jars. For most files the proof appears on screen within seconds, and otherwise a designer emails it, usually within 1 business day. Changes to the proof are free, nothing prints until you approve, and you are charged only when you approve. Ordering in the first half of the season leaves room for a second look at the proof.
Questions people ask about these
What size label fits a jam jar lid?
Start at 2 x 2 inches, a circle, and hold a paper circle of that size against your lid first. Jars differ, so measure the flat top of yours and enter a different size in the calculator if you need one.
Can one design go on jars, bags and boxes?
Yes. A round 2 inch label works on a jar lid and across the fold of a cookie bag, and larger boxes can take a bigger version of the same artwork. Each size is its own item in the cart.
Do I need to list ingredients on homemade gifts?
Our label carries your name and greeting. If a gift needs ingredients or allergens, a handwritten tag tied to the jar works well. If you sell what you make, check the labeling rules that apply to your product; we print the file you send.
Will the labels survive a gift basket?
The vinyl is laminated and waterproof, so a damp jar or a sticky spill wipes clean. Apply the label to a clean, dry lid for the best hold.
How early should I order for the holidays?
Count back from the day you start wrapping: the order ships the next business day after you approve the proof, and USPS delivery takes 3 to 5 business days. Approve the proof as early as you can so changes are never rushed.
Can I print a different message for each family?
Each design is its own cart item with its own quantity and proof, so a separate greeting per family means a separate design. Every label within a design prints the same, so names cannot change from one label to the next.
