How to get it right
Order in winter for a spring season
Lacrosse is a spring sport, which means the roster is set in winter and the first scrimmage arrives sooner than anyone expects. Place the decal order while the team is still indoors, when the equipment manager has time to count helmets and the club has time to approve a proof. A club with a boys' program, a girls' program and several age groups can give each its own design. Each design is its own line in the cart, with its own quantity and its own free proof, so one team's change never holds up another's.
A side logo, and a number on its own line
The side of the helmet carries the mascot. If your club also marks the back of the shell with a player number, treat each number as a separate design. Every sticker in a run prints the same, so a 9 and a 22 are two lines, each with its own quantity and its own proof. The die cut follows the mascot at no extra charge. Keep the outline bold and the details few: a green hawk with a clear beak and one stripe of white reads at a glance, while tiny lettering turns to mush at sideline distance.
Glossy or matte, matched to the shell
Lacrosse helmets come in both glossy and matte shells, and a decal looks best when its laminate matches. Choose glossy for a glossy shell and matte for a matte one; the cost is the same. The vinyl is waterproof, so wet grass, dew and a rained-out practice are fine. The adhesive is permanent, so check the placement before you peel. Look at your league and helmet maker's guidance on decals first, and send artwork your club or league has approved, since official marks belong to their owners. Nothing prints until you approve the free proof with its cut line.
Questions people ask about these
What size lacrosse helmet decal should we order?
This page opens at 2.5 x 2.5 inches, which suits the side of a helmet. Measure yours first, because vents and screws limit the flat area. Any custom size from 1 x 2 inches up to 48 x 80 inches is available.
Can girls' and boys' programs have different decals?
Yes. Each design is its own line in the cart, with its own quantity and its own free proof, so every program or age group can have its own.
Can I add a player number for the back of the helmet?
Yes, one number per design. Every sticker in a run is identical, so each number is its own cart line with its own quantity and proof.
Is glossy or matte better on a lacrosse helmet?
Match your shell: glossy laminate on a glossy helmet, matte on a matte one. Both are the same cost, and you choose in the calculator.
Are decals allowed by my league or helmet maker?
Ask your league or club director and check the helmet maker's instructions - they decide where decals may go, not the printer. We print the file you send.
When should we order for the spring season?
Winter is a good time. Orders ship the next business day after you approve the proof, with free USPS shipping across the US. For most files the proof appears on screen in seconds; otherwise a designer emails it, usually within one business day.
