How to get it right
The one-sheet for your own film wall
Home-theater rooms, basement cinemas, hallways and game rooms are where 27x40 prints tend to hang. The tall proportion suits film artwork designed for a one-sheet layout: a big title at the bottom, a billing block, a single strong image. It is also the right shape for a screening of a student or independent film, a film-club season poster or a premiere night. This is a print of your own file at those dimensions, not an official studio or theater poster, and we do not supply film artwork. The same size also lets you build a hallway of matching one-sheets, one per film in a season.
Designing for a tall one-sheet
Keep the eye path simple: image first, title second, credits last. Put the title and tagline where they will be read from across a hallway, and let the billing block sit small along the bottom. Standard poster frames for 27x40 are common, so measure your space and check the inner opening of any frame against 27 by 40 inches. Pick portrait for a classic one-sheet or landscape for a wide display. If you are building the layout from scratch, start at the full size so type is placed correctly from the first draft.
Files, proof and delivery
For a raster design, 8100 by 12000 pixels gives 300 DPI at full 27x40 size; a vector PDF, AI or EPS stays sharp at any size. The proof is free, our designer tells you before the proof if the resolution will show, and nothing prints until you approve. Production takes 2 business days after you approve the proof, then shipping within the US is free and takes 3-5 business days by USPS. A poster this size is rolled in a tube, not folded. The paper is for indoor display, or outdoors only in a dry covered spot.
Questions people ask about these
Can I order just one 27x40 poster?
Yes. One poster per design is a normal order, with the same free proof as a larger run. The per-piece rate goes down from the second copy of the same design.
What resolution do I need for 27x40?
A vector PDF, AI or EPS is ideal. For a photo or raster file, 8100 by 12000 pixels gives 300 DPI at full size. Lower resolutions still print, just softer, and our designer tells you before the proof if it will show.
Is 27x40 the standard movie poster size?
27 by 40 inches is the one-sheet size used for theatrical posters. We print your own file at those dimensions; it is not an official studio or theater poster, and we do not supply film artwork.
Why does the calculator say custom size?
27x40 is set up as a custom size in the calculator. This page opens it already set to 27 by 40 inches, so you only upload your file and approve the proof.
Can I print a poster for my own film or screening?
Yes. Send your own design for a student film, an independent release, a film-club night or a premiere. The proof shows exactly what will print before anything is made.
How is a 27x40 poster shipped?
Rolled in a tube, not folded. Free US shipping by USPS takes 3-5 business days after 2 business days in production.
