How to get it right
27x40 one-sheet vs. our 24x36 standard
27x40 is the traditional theatrical one-sheet dimension, and on our page that means the custom-size tool rather than a preset button - enter the two numbers and the calculator prices it instantly, with custom sizes available up to 48x72. 24x36 is our nearest standard preset: a size most people already picture when they think 'movie poster,' quicker to select, and a common choice for a home-theater or media-room print when the exact one-sheet dimension doesn't matter. Neither is more 'correct' - it depends on whether the project needs the true one-sheet or just a poster that reads that way.
What we print, and what we don't design
We print a finished file - yours, a designer's, or one built with a design tool - at the size you choose. We don't create the artwork, so the file should be one you have the right to print: a poster for a short film you made, a movie-style design with an invented title for a home movie night, a birthday or anniversary poster laid out like a one-sheet. If you need the artwork built first, a designer can make it and you can print the finished file here. If the design isn't ready yet, order now and upload once it's finished - nothing prints, and nothing is charged, until you approve the proof.
Files, paper and how a movie poster ships
Movie-poster layouts are usually text-heavy, so a vector PDF, AI or EPS file keeps titles and credits sharp at any size. A raster file needs real resolution behind it - around 8100 by 12000 pixels for a 27x40 at 300 DPI - or fine type can look soft once printed large. Both sizes print on the same semi-gloss paper as every poster on the site, which keeps a dark, high-contrast movie-poster palette from picking up a hard glare. Production takes two business days after proof approval, and both 27x40 and 24x36 ship rolled in a sturdy tube.
Questions people ask about these
What size is a real movie poster (one-sheet)?
27x40 inches is the standard theatrical one-sheet size - type it into our calculator as a custom size and it prices instantly.
Is 27x40 one of your standard sizes?
No - it's a custom size for us. Enter 27 and 40 in the calculator and it prices instantly, like any custom size.
Can you design a movie poster for me?
No - we print a finished file you upload; we don't create the artwork. The file should be your own design or one you have the right to print.
What's the biggest movie-style poster you can print?
Up to 48x72 inches through the custom-size tool, well beyond the standard one-sheet.
Is 24x36 close enough to a real movie poster?
It's smaller than the 27x40 one-sheet, but it's our nearest standard preset and a common size for a movie-style print when the exact dimension doesn't matter.
What file format works best for a text-heavy movie poster design?
A vector PDF, AI or EPS keeps type and line art sharp at any size; a raster file needs high enough resolution that it can look soft at 27x40 or larger if it's too small to start.
