How to get it right
What shows around the design on dark and light paint
White ink is printed behind the colors, so the printed parts hold their color on black paint and on white paint alike. What changes is everything the ink does not cover: the gaps between letters, the open space inside a ring, the edge of the cut. There the surface shows through. On a black car those gaps go dark, on a white car they nearly vanish, and on glass they show whatever sits behind it. Open lettering and thin lines read best on a plain, even surface, so keep the design off a crease or a body line. The free proof shows the result before anything is made. A printout of your artwork held against the panel in daylight makes a good second check.
Body panel or glass, outside or inside
Normal print is made for the outside surface, paint or glass. For a design on the inside of a rear window that reads from outside, choose Mirror in the Print row of the calculator. The adhesive on clear vinyl is permanent and cannot be repositioned, so tape a sheet of paper cut to your size onto the spot, step back, and check the angle before you order. Apply it to clean, dry, smooth paint or glass. For a single decal on tinted glass, our car window decals page compares white and clear on the window itself.
One strip, a matching pair, or a set for the fleet
A 12 x 4 strip fits a rear window ledge, a tailgate, or a lower door panel. Type your own width and height; one piece can run from 1 x 3 up to 48 x 80 inches. Two sides of a truck want a matching pair, so type 2 and both print from one file. A company with several cars types any count, with one design and one proof. Pieces up to 15 inches arrive flat, and anything larger is rolled into a sturdy tube so it arrives crease-free. Clear vinyl ships two business days after you approve the proof, and White vinyl ships the next business day.
Questions people ask about these
How much does it cost to get custom car decals?
The price depends on the size, the material and how many pieces you order. The calculator shows the exact price before you add anything to the cart, and the price per decal goes down as the quantity goes up. The proof and the shipping across the US are free.
Where can I order custom clear stickers for a car?
In the calculator on this site. Enter your width and height, upload your file or send it afterward through the link we email, and approve a free proof checked by a real person before anything prints. Clear vinyl is the material the calculator starts on, and White vinyl and Static cling are the other two choices under Material.
Will the colors show up on a dark car?
Yes. White ink is printed behind the colors, so the printed parts stay solid on dark paint. Parts of the design with no ink let the paint show, so the gaps between letters turn dark on a dark car. The proof shows the result before anything is made.
What is the difference between clear and white vinyl?
Both are laminated. White vinyl is opaque and ships the next business day after you approve the proof. Clear vinyl lets the paint or glass show around the design, has white ink behind the colors, and ships two business days after approval.
Can I put a clear decal inside the rear window?
Yes. Choose Mirror in the Print row and the design is printed reversed, so it reads correctly from outside. Tint film normally sits on the inside of the glass, so on a tinted window the outside of the glass, with White vinyl, is the safer place.
Can I take a clear car decal off later?
Treat it as a one-time placement. The adhesive on clear vinyl is permanent, and we make no promise about how the paint or glass looks if it comes off. For a notice that is only temporary, choose Static cling under Material, which has no adhesive and goes on the inside of untinted glass.
