How to get it right
Printed first, then cut to your outline
A car decal from us starts as a full-color print, and the cutter follows the outline of that print afterward. Photos, gradients and many-color logos print as drawn. The cut follows the outer edge of the design only, so do not count on holes or cut-outs inside it. If you prefer a plain shape, a square, circle, rectangle or rounded rectangle is available too. The vinyl is white with a protective laminate, so the decal is solid and covers what is under it. We do not make cut vinyl lettering, where each letter is cut from a single color of film. What we make is one printed piece, cut as a whole, which is why a mountain scene with a sky behind it works as well as a plain name.
Where a decal holds on a car, and where it does not
A decal needs a clean, dry, smooth surface. On a car that means a tailgate, a door, a rear quarter panel and glass. A panel that curves two ways at once, such as a wheel arch, is hard for any flat decal, so give those spots a smaller piece. The grained black plastic on many bumpers and trim is not smooth, and a decal has little to hold there. Give the panel a wash and let it dry fully, then press the decal on with firm pressure. A rear window takes the decal on the outside face of the glass. Solid white vinyl means you cannot see through the covered part, so keep the decal clear of the driver's sightline and check your state's rules.
Permanent, so choose the spot once
The adhesive is made to stay. It is not removable or repositionable, so line the decal up before it touches the car. We cannot promise how the paint underneath will look later, and a leased car is a question for the leasing company. Glass that will need a new message is better served by a static cling, which goes on the inside with no adhesive. Our car window clings page covers it. One piece is enough for one car. A matching pair for both sides is two, and a quantity tile or any typed count works for a few cars. At 10 x 6 the decal ships flat. A piece with a longer side over 15 inches rolls into a sturdy tube and arrives without creases.
Questions people ask about these
What is the difference between a car sticker and a car decal?
At our shop both words mean the same thing: a full-color printed piece cut to its outline on laminated vinyl. Some shops use decal for plain one-color cut lettering, which we do not make.
What size decal fits a car?
This page opens at 10 x 6 inches, a size that reads on a tailgate or a quarter panel. Smaller pieces suit a side window or a bumper corner, and larger ones suit a door. Any exact size up to 48 x 80 can be typed in.
Can I put a decal on my car's paint?
A smooth painted panel is a common spot. Wash it and let it dry first. We cannot say how the paint will look under the decal later, so that call is yours.
Can I take a car decal off later?
The adhesive is permanent, and we do not make a removable version. For glass you may want to change, a static cling inside the window has no adhesive.
Can I get many small car stickers for a club or a fundraiser?
Yes, but not on this page, which is for one decal or a few. See our bulk bumper stickers page for runs of one design, or our car decal fundraiser page for a fundraiser.
Can I put a decal on my rear window?
Yes, on the outside of the glass and away from the wiper path. Check your state's rules first. A long, thin shape along one edge keeps the driver's view open.
