How to get it right
On the outside of the package
A food business has three places for a label: the lid, the side of a box, and a bag or a jar. Choose the spot where a customer looks first. On a kraft takeout box, one round label centered on the top reads like a stamp. On a clear deli container, put the label on the lid so the food stays visible through the sides. Our labels carry no food-contact claim, so keep them on the outer surface of the packaging and not against the food itself. A second design for another menu item is a second item in the cart, with its own quantity and proof.
A closure that finishes the box
A round label across the join of a lid and a box works as a branded closure and makes an order look finished. At 3 inches the circle spans the join on many small boxes and bakery boxes; check by holding a paper circle of the same size over the join before you order. For a jar lid or a bag fold, step down to a smaller circle, with 2 x 2 inches the smallest we print. A branded sticker across a join is not a security seal, and we do not sell it as one.
Cold containers and kitchen wipe-downs
Cold salads, drinks and desserts sweat on the way to the table, and paper gives up quickly in that. The vinyl and its laminate are waterproof, so condensation does not soak the print. Put the label on a clean, dry surface before the container goes cold, and press from the center to the edges. In the kitchen, a damp cloth across a labeled surface leaves the label clean. Use the proof to check type size on your real box; labels at a pickup counter are read from arm's length, so short names and bold marks work best.
Questions people ask about these
Can the label touch the food?
We make no claim about direct food contact. Use the labels on the outside of boxes, lids, bags and jars, away from the food itself.
What size label fits a takeout box?
Start at 3 x 3 inches for a lid or a box top and measure the surface first. Smaller boxes and jar lids take a smaller circle, and a circle starts at 2 x 2 inches. Any custom size can be entered in the calculator.
Will condensation make the label peel?
The vinyl and the laminate are waterproof, so condensation does not soak the print. Apply the label to a clean, dry surface for the best hold.
Can I use a label to close a lid or a bag?
Yes, as a branded closure across the join of a lid or a bag fold. It is a sticker, not a tamper-evident security seal.
Can I order different labels for different menu items?
Yes. Each design is its own cart item, with its own quantity and its own proof, so a savory design and a sweet design can ship together. A single sheet with several designs is not available.
Do I need to add ingredients or allergens?
Packaged food that you sell can fall under food labeling rules, and we do not give regulatory advice. We print the file you send, so check the labeling rules that apply to your product and include what you need in your artwork.
