How to get it right
Half-pint, pint and the lid, in three sizes
An 8 oz half-pint jar takes a 2" circle on the front and the same 2" on a regular-mouth lid, which is why a single size covers a small operation. A 16 oz pint takes 2.5" on a wide-mouth lid and 3" on the front. If you sell more than one jar size, ordering the 2" and the 3" together covers the whole range without a third design.
Honey bears and anything that is not glass
A squeeze bottle curves in two directions and is made of soft plastic that flexes when it is handled, which is the hardest surface in this category. Keep the label small - 2" or under - and put it on the flattest part of the front panel. A tall narrow bottle is better served by the 4"x1.5" rectangle running down the panel than by a circle that has to sit inside the curve.
What goes on the label, and what we do not decide
What must be shown - net weight, your details, anything your state requires of a food product sold direct - is set by rules we do not interpret for you. We print the artwork as approved, so bring that requirement to the design stage rather than to the proof. One more thing we do not decide: we publish no water or moisture rating for roll labels, so a jar that comes out of a cooler wet is outside what we will promise. For labels that have to meet moisture, our die-cut vinyl stickers are the product built for it.
Questions people ask about these
What size label fits a honey jar lid?
Two inches for a regular-mouth mason lid, 2.5" for a wide mouth. The 2" circle also works as a front label on an 8 oz half-pint jar, which is why it is the most ordered size here.
What fits the front of a 16 oz jar?
Three inches is the comfortable front size on a pint jar, with 3.5" as the maximum before the glass curve starts lifting the edges.
Will the label survive a cooler or a damp market morning?
We publish no moisture rating for roll labels, so we will not claim one. If your jars come out of a cooler wet, our die-cut vinyl stickers are the material made for that.
Do you help with what the label legally has to say?
No. Requirements for selling food direct vary by state and by how you sell, and we do not advise on them. We print the artwork you approve, so settle the wording before the design is finished.
Can I label a plastic honey bear bottle?
Yes, with a small label on the flattest part of the front - 2" or less. Soft squeeze bottles flex and curve in two directions, so a big circle will lift at the edges; the 4"x1.5" rectangle running vertically is often the better fit.
