How to get it right
Plan a wall, not a poster
A wall usually works as one large piece or a set of smaller ones. One 24x36 above the bed carries a wall on its own. Three 11x14s in a row, or a grid of square 15x15s, make a gallery wall from a set of photos. Pick the layout first and the sizes follow.
Hanging without damage
Dorms and rentals often forbid nails. Posters are light, so removable strips, clips or a poster hanger usually do the job. If it goes in a frame, the paper does not fuse to the glass - the print comes out intact at the end of the year.
Your image, sharp
Upload the original photo or artwork rather than a screenshot, and a designer checks the resolution before the proof. Posters up to 15 inches ship flat in a rigid mailer and larger ones rolled in a tube, with free US shipping in 3-5 business days after two business days in production.
Order before move-in day, not after
A dorm mailroom or a family's own front door both need buffer time before move-in day. Order about one to two weeks ahead: two business days in production plus 3-5 business days shipping covers the printing and transit itself, but a campus mailroom that only processes packages a few times a week can add extra days before the poster reaches the room. Ordering earlier and having the poster wait a few extra days beats scrambling to get a reprint made after move-in weekend has already come and gone for the semester.
Above the desk, not just above the bed
A dorm room usually has two distinct zones that call for different sizes: the main wall, often above the bed, for one statement piece at 24x36, and the desk area, where a smaller 11x14 or 12x18 print sits without crowding a lamp, a shelf, or a corkboard. Treating them as two separate decisions, rather than picking one size to cover the whole room at once, gives each spot a poster that actually fits the space around it instead of one large piece trying awkwardly to do both jobs in a room that never has much wall space to begin with.
Questions people ask about these
Can I print my own photo or art as a poster?
Yes - that is exactly what we print. Upload the original file and pick a size.
What size poster goes above a bed?
24x36 inches is the classic single statement piece. For a gallery wall, use several 11x14 or square 15x15 prints.
Can I hang it without nails?
Yes - posters are light enough for removable strips or clips.
Can I order just one?
Yes. One poster per design is a normal order, with a free proof first.
How is it shipped?
Up to 15 inches - an 11x14 or a 15x15 - flat in a rigid mailer that will not bend; larger posters rolled in a mailing tube. US shipping is free and takes 3-5 business days, after two business days in production.
When should I order a dorm poster before move-in day?
About one to two weeks ahead. Production is two business days after proof approval and shipping takes 3-5 business days, but build in extra time if it's shipping to a campus mailroom, which may only process incoming packages a few times a week.
What size fits well above a dorm desk, as opposed to the main wall?
11x14 or 12x18 works well near a desk without crowding a lamp or a shelf, while the larger 24x36 suits a single statement piece on the main wall, usually the one above the bed where there's more open space.
