How to get it right
Nose and tail placement
The nose and tail are the flattest, least-traveled parts of a board, which is why most shaper marks and shop logos end up there instead of the deck or rails. A die-cut sized to the artwork's own outline, rather than a square card around it, sits closer to the board's shape and doesn't leave an obvious background edge. Keep it a few inches back from the very tip, where flex and impact are highest, so the edge of the sticker isn't the first thing to lift on a hard landing. On a board with a lot of curve near the tail, a smaller size follows the contour better than a large one.
Applying it under or over the wax
Most boards get the sticker applied to bare, clean fiberglass before any wax goes on, since a dry, oil-free surface gives the adhesive the best grip. If wax has already built up where you want to place it, scrape and wipe the area down first rather than pressing the sticker over a waxy film — it won't bond the same way. Once it's on, waxing around it as usual is fine; the laminated vinyl is built to handle water exposure the same way the rest of a waterproofed board does. Avoid placing it directly under the deck traction pad or foot straps, where constant flex and friction wear anything down faster.
Shaper marks and surf shop branding
A shaper stamping every board with a maker's mark, or a surf shop putting its logo on boards before they go out on the rack, both need a design that holds up to sun, salt spray and being carried under an arm. A custom die-cut in the exact shape of a logo looks intentional rather than like an afterthought sticker slapped on top. Shops ordering ahead of a busy season typically order a batch at once rather than one-off, so the design and proof are only handled a single time. Keep the source file on hand so a reorder next season uses the same artwork without starting over.
Questions people ask about these
Can you put stickers on surfboards?
Yes, most boards can take a sticker on the nose, tail or deck as long as the surface is clean and dry before you apply it.
How much does it cost to get custom stickers made?
Pricing depends on size, shape and quantity — build your order in the calculator on this page to see the total before you check out.
How can I decorate my own surfboard?
A custom die-cut sticker in your own logo or artwork's shape is a simple way to add a mark without painting or resining anything new onto the board.
Will saltwater and sun make the sticker peel?
The vinyl is laminated, waterproof and made for outdoor sun and rain. We do not publish a figure for constant saltwater use, so keep it off the rails and the flex points near the tip, where any sticker lifts first.
Can I get a custom shape to match my logo?
Yes, a die-cut that follows your artwork's outline is available at the same price as a square or circle.
Should the sticker go on before or after wax?
Before. Put it on clean, bare glass, then wax around it as usual; a sticker pressed onto old wax will not bond properly.
Will I see a proof before I pay?
Yes, for most files. Upload your design and the proof appears on screen in seconds, with the cut line, at the size and shape you chose - before you pay. If a file needs a designer's eye, we email the proof instead, and changes are free until it is right. Nothing prints until you approve it.
