How to get it right
Why artists print at 13x19
It sits between a small desk print and a wall poster. At 13x19 an illustration has presence on a shelf or a studio wall, yet the print is still easy to carry to a market table or hand across a counter. Many printmakers choose it because the artwork can sit comfortably inside the sheet with a clean white border around it, instead of running to the edge. If you sell your own work, a single design can become a small run here, starting from one print, so you can test a new piece before you commit to more copies.
Plan the white border in your file
A border is part of the file, not something added afterwards. Build your 13x19 artboard with the image smaller than the page and leave the border area white, so the border prints exactly as you drew it. For a botanical plate, a portrait or a photograph, an even border on all sides looks classic, and a slightly deeper bottom edge gives room for a title or a signature. Choose portrait or landscape with the orientation toggle. If the border is intentional, say so in your order notes so the designer reading the file knows it is by design.
Resolution, proof and delivery
At 13x19, a raster file of 3900 by 5700 pixels gives 300 DPI at full size; a vector PDF, AI or EPS is sharp at any size. Every order gets a free proof: our designer checks the file, tells you before the proof if the resolution will show, makes changes for free, and nothing prints until you approve. Production takes 2 business days after you approve the proof, then shipping within the US is free and takes 3-5 business days by USPS. Semi-gloss paper is meant for indoor display, or outdoors only in a dry covered spot.
Questions people ask about these
Can I order just one 13x19 print?
Yes. One print per design is a normal order, with a free proof first. The per-piece rate goes down from the second copy of the same design.
What resolution does a 13x19 file need?
A vector PDF, AI or EPS is ideal. For a raster file, 3900 by 5700 pixels gives 300 DPI at full size. Lower resolutions still print, just softer, and our designer tells you before the proof if it will show.
How big is 13x19 compared with 11x17?
It is 2 inches wider and 2 inches taller than 11x17. That extra margin is what makes it the usual choice for art prints with a white border around the image.
Can I print a white border?
Yes. Design the border into your file by making the artwork smaller than the 13x19 page and leaving the rest white. It prints as drawn, and the proof shows it before anything is printed.
Why does the calculator say custom size?
13x19 is set up as a custom size in the calculator. This page opens it already set to 13 by 19 inches, so you only upload your file and approve the proof.
Can I order the same print in a few copies?
Yes. Raise the quantity in the calculator. Each additional copy of the same design has a lower per-piece rate than the first.
