How to get it right
Where an 8x10 gets hung or stood
In a frame on a shelf, on a desk, on a gallery wall next to larger prints, or handed over as a gift: 8x10 is the size most picture frames are made for. It also works well for small notices and menus that stand on a counter or a table. If your frame has a mat, the opening is smaller than the print, so keep faces, names and important lines away from the outer edge. If you only need one print, order one; a run is the same order with a higher quantity.
A poster print, not a photo lab print
This is poster printing on semi-gloss paper: good for artwork, typographic posters, event notices and photographs that are meant to look like a poster. It is not a photographic print on photo paper, which is a different product from a photo lab. Semi-gloss is a good match for a framed print because the paper does not stick to the glass of the frame. The paper is made for indoors, or for a dry spot such as behind glass or under a roof, because it is not waterproof.
Files, proof and delivery
For a photo or raster design, 2400 by 3000 pixels gives 300 DPI at 8x10; a vector PDF, AI or EPS stays sharp at any size. A designer checks the file first and tells you before the proof if the resolution will show, changes are free, and nothing prints until you approve. 8x10 is not one of the standard sizes in the calculator, so it is entered as a custom size, and the smallest side we print is 8 inches. Production takes 2 business days after you approve the proof, and the print ships flat with free US shipping, 3-5 business days by USPS.
