How to get it right
A photo or a drawing that becomes the gift
The posters people give at Christmas are personal: the family portrait from the summer, a child's drawing of the tree, the dog in a Santa hat, a snowy illustration with the family name along the bottom. One print is a normal order, so a single gift does not need a run. For sharpness, a photo should be about 5400 by 7200 pixels for 18x24 at 300 DPI. Phone photos often work at smaller sizes, and the designer tells you on the proof if the resolution will not hold. We print your finished file and do not add text or design a poster from scratch, so put the words, such as the family name and the year, in the file you send.
Posters for a shop, a church or a school pageant
Beyond gifts, a Christmas poster is a notice: a shop's gift-wrap corner, a church's schedule of services and carol night, the program for a school pageant on the lobby wall. All of these are indoor uses, and 11x14 or 18x24 covers a counter, a hallway or a noticeboard. On a notice, put the greeting first, the times and dates second and the address last, and read the proof at the size it will hang. A bigger wall takes 24x36 or the standard sizes up to 36x48, and a custom size is available up to 48x72. Each different poster is its own design with its own free proof, while the same design ordered as a run needs one proof for the whole run.
Frames, shipping and getting it under the tree
We print the paper only, so the frame is yours to buy; 11x14, 16x20, 18x24 and 24x36 are all common ready-made frame sizes. The semi-gloss paper does not stick to frame glass, so a poster can stay in its frame all through the holidays and come out again undamaged. Match the file's proportions to the size you pick, or the proof will crop the edges. Posters up to 15 inches on the longer side ship flat in a rigid mailer, and larger ones ship rolled in a tube. Once you approve the proof it takes two business days to print, and free US shipping adds 3-5 business days. Approve by about December 9 to be safe; a faster carrier at checkout is there if you decide later.
Questions people ask about these
What size Christmas poster should I choose?
18x24 is where this page opens: it fills a spot above a fireplace or sofa and fits a common ready-made frame. Use 11x14 for a shelf or desk, 24x36 for a bare wall, and go up to 36x48 or a custom size to 48x72 for a lobby.
Will my phone photo be sharp enough?
Yes, if the resolution is high enough for the size. For 18x24 the target is about 5400 by 7200 pixels; the designer checks the file and tells you on the free proof if it will look soft.
Do you have Christmas poster templates?
No. We print the finished artwork you send and do not design a poster from scratch. Put the greeting, the names and the year in your file before you upload it.
Does it come framed?
No. We print the poster paper only, so the frame is yours. Semi-gloss paper does not fuse to frame glass, and 18x24 is a common ready-made frame size.
When do I order to have it by Christmas?
To be safe, approve your proof by about December 9. A faster carrier is available at checkout if you decide later.
Do I have to order a set?
No. One poster per design is a normal order, so a single gift is fine. Different posters can share a cart, and each one gets its own proof at no charge.
