How to get it right
The welcome poster and the memory board
The welcome poster carries one great photo, the graduate's name and the class year, and it is read in a second as people arrive. The memory board is the opposite: a collage of photos from kindergarten on, which people stand in front of and talk about. The first works at 18x24. The second needs 24x36 or larger, because a collage of twenty photos at a small size is twenty thumbnails.
Senior photos and resolution
The professional senior photo is almost always high-resolution enough for every poster size we print - use the original file the photographer delivered, not a copy saved from social media. Older phone photos in a collage are fine at small sizes within the design. Our designer checks the whole file before the proof and tells you if any single photo will print soft.
Timing around graduation season
Every graduation party happens in the same few weeks, so the calendar is the thing to watch. Production is two business days after you approve the proof and shipping takes 3-5 business days - order two weeks before the party and the proof has room for a round of changes.
Sizing to the party venue, not just the guest count
Open houses often happen in a rented hall, a backyard tent, or the family's own living room, and each spot changes the size that actually works. In a small living room, an 18x24 welcome poster on an entry table is plenty since guests are only a few feet away when they see it; in a rented hall or community center with more distance between the door and the crowd, step up to 20x30 so it still reads from across the room instead of getting lost against a bigger wall. A photo-collage memory board scales the same way - the bigger the room, the bigger the board needs to be - so measure the actual space before ordering rather than guessing straight from the size chart.
A keepsake copy of the same poster
Families often want more than one copy of the same welcome poster - one for the party itself, and a smaller keepsake for grandparents or for the graduate's own room once they move on. Since it's the same design, order it twice at two different sizes in one cart: the party version at 18x24 and a gift copy at 11x14, or even smaller if it's meant for a desk or a shelf rather than a wall. Each size is its own line item, but they share the same file, so one proof approval covers all of them and there's no extra design work needed just to get a second, smaller print made.
Questions people ask about these
What size graduation poster should I get?
18x24 for a single-photo welcome poster; 24x36 or larger for a collage of photos from over the years.
Can I use my senior portrait?
Yes - use the original file from the photographer. Screenshots and social media copies lose most of the resolution.
Can I print just one?
Yes. One poster per design is a normal order, with a free proof first.
How far ahead should I order for a graduation party?
About two weeks. Production is two business days after proof approval and free shipping takes 3-5 business days.
Can I put it outside by the driveway?
These are indoor paper posters. For the front door, place it inside a window facing out; a yard sign needs a weatherproof material.
Can I get a smaller keepsake version of the same poster for grandparents?
Yes - order the same design at two sizes in one cart, for example 18x24 for the party and 11x14 as a gift copy. One proof approval covers both sizes, since it's the exact same artwork just printed smaller for the second one.
What file works best for a poster with a lot of small text, like a list of awards or activities?
A vector PDF, AI or EPS file keeps small achievement text and activity lists sharp at any size, which matters when a poster lists years of accomplishments in one column. A raster image works too if it's saved at 300 DPI at the actual print size, not scaled up from a smaller original file.
