How to get it right
What stays out of reach
The outside of a car's glass meets the wash brush, the ice scraper, road spray and the occasional fingernail. Behind the glass, none of those get to the sticker. That is the case for front adhesive on a vehicle: a surf club badge, a team name or a company mark can sit on the room side of the window while the outside is washed and scraped as usual. The adhesive is on the printed face of the clear sticker, so it grips the inner surface of the glass and the design is read through it.
Which window, and where on it
The rear side windows and the rear window are the usual spots. Place the sticker where your state's rules allow, and never where the mark gets in the driver's view. On a rear window, find the thin defroster lines and place the sticker between them, not across them, so it sits on smooth glass. Corners are popular because they keep the middle clear. Stand behind the car and check the position before you peel the backing, and hold the sticker by its edges while you apply it. A clean, dry pane gives the adhesive the best start, so wipe the glass first and take your time over the first edge.
Inside the glass or on the outside
Clubs and teams tend to order one design for every member's car, with spares for whoever joins next season. Dealerships and small businesses put a name or a phone number behind the glass of the cars they use. For the outside of a vehicle, look at our car window decals, which carry adhesive on the back and are made for outer surfaces. Choose by where you want the mark: behind the glass with this sticker, or on the outer face with a regular one. Either way, the free proof comes first, so you can check the shape, the wording and the colors before a single sticker is printed.
Questions people ask about these
Will an inside car window sticker read correctly from outside?
Yes. Send the artwork as people outside should see it, and we flip it for the inside of the glass. The free proof shows the result before anything is printed.
Which car windows work best?
Rear side windows and the rear window are the usual choices. Keep the sticker out of the driver's view and follow your state's rules on where a sticker may go; legal advice on placement is outside what we can offer.
What about the defroster lines on a rear window?
Place the sticker between the lines, not across them. Measure the gap first and pick a size that fits it. The standard sizes go from 2 to 6 inches; for an exact fit to the gap, use Other.
How is this different from an outside car window decal?
An outside decal has its adhesive on the back and is stuck to the outer face of the glass. This sticker has its adhesive on the printed side and goes on the inner face, so the artwork sits behind the glass.
Can a club or team order one design for every member?
Yes. Order the design in the quantity you need and add spares for new members. Designs that differ between members, such as numbers, are separate designs; say so in the note.
What happens after I order?
A designer emails a free proof, and you can ask for changes at no cost. Stickers go to print 2 business days after approval. Payment is taken only after you approve, and USPS delivery is free, with quicker options at checkout.
