How to get it right
Why the inside of the glass is the usual place
The glass does the protecting. On the inside, a cling stays out of rain, wind and sidewalk traffic, and it lies flat against a pane that is smooth and clean, which is all static needs. It is also the only place some tenants can put anything: if your lease, a mall or a building manager limits what goes on the street face of the glass, the room side is where a cling can go. On the outside, a cling belongs only on protected glass, such as a covered entrance; a fully exposed pane is not the place for one.
What the street sees
From the sidewalk you look at the design through the glass, and from the room you look at it from behind. That is why an inside cling is printed in reverse: the Print row in the calculator opens on Mirror, so the design is printed as its own mirror image and the words run the right way round for anyone outside. The film is clear, with white ink under the design wherever the colors need a solid base, and the proof shows where. A designer checks the orientation on the free proof before anything prints, and changes cost nothing until you approve. The pane itself has to be smooth: frosted, etched or patterned glass will not hold a cling.
Which pane, and what size
About 12 inches suits a door pane, the side of a counter window or a notice read at eye level. A pane of a shop window takes 18 to 23 inches, and a display window read from across the street takes 30 inches and up. Sizes run from 4 to 48 inches on the long side, and Other takes a size of your own. Measure the clean glass, leave a hand width free at every edge and order to that. Production takes two business days after you approve the proof, and shipping inside the US is free, 3-5 business days.
Questions people ask about these
Do you put window clings on the inside or outside?
Inside, in nearly every case. The glass protects the cling from rain and wind, and the design is printed in reverse so it reads correctly from the street. A cling goes on the outside only on protected glass, such as a covered entrance, and is then printed normally.
Can a window cling be mounted on the inside of the glass and read from outside?
Yes, that is the usual way to use one. Keep Print on Mirror in the calculator, put the cling on the inside of a clean, smooth pane, and the design reads correctly from the sidewalk. The free proof confirms the orientation before anything prints.
Can I put an inside window cling on frosted or patterned glass?
No. Static holds only on a smooth, flush surface, so a frosted, etched or textured pane will not keep a cling up. Use a clear, smooth pane or a smooth glass door.
How do I put it up without bubbles?
Clean the glass, mist it with plain water rather than glass cleaner, lay the cling on while the glass is wet, slide it into place and smooth it from the center outward with a soft squeegee or a card. Once the water dries it holds by itself.
Will it leave a mark on the glass when I take it down?
No. A cling has no adhesive, so there is nothing to leave behind. Peel it from one corner and it comes off in one piece and can go back up.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One cling is a normal order, with the same free proof as a larger set.
