How to get it right
What reverse printing does to your design
Anything that goes on the inside of a window and is read from outside is seen through the glass, from behind. Print it the normal way and every letter comes out backwards. Reverse printing turns the whole design left to right before it is printed, so a name, an arrow, a phone number or a logo with a lopsided shape all read correctly from the sidewalk. Normal is the other choice: use it for a cling that is read from the side it was put on, such as one on a mirror or on glass you look at from inside the room.
White ink under the color
The film is clear. Colors printed on clear film alone look thin against a bright street, so white ink goes under the design wherever the colors need a solid base, and white lettering or a white logo is printed in white ink and shows as white. The proof shows exactly where the white sits, so you see the result before anything prints, and a designer changes it at no charge until you approve.
Read the proof like a passer-by
The proof is where a reverse print is checked. Read it the way someone on the sidewalk will: the words in the right order, the numbers in the right sequence, the date, phone number or web address spelled correctly. A designer also confirms the orientation, and you can ask for changes until you approve. Production then takes two business days, and shipping inside the US is free, 3-5 business days.
Questions people ask about these
What is a reverse printed window cling?
A cling printed as a mirror image, made to go on the inside of the glass. Viewed through the window from outside, the design reads the right way round. On the calculator it is Print: Mirror, the default.
Do window clings need to be mirrored?
When the cling goes on the inside of a window and is read from outside, yes. When it goes on a mirror, or is read from the side it is put on, no: that is the Normal print.
Do I have to flip my artwork myself?
No. Send the design the way it should read to people outside and leave Print on Mirror, which prints it in reverse. If you have already flipped the file, say so in your note so it is not flipped twice. The proof is where the orientation is confirmed, before anything prints.
What if I choose Normal by mistake?
A cling printed normally and put on the inside of the glass reads backwards from the street. Check the orientation on the proof, and if it is wrong, ask for the change at no charge before you approve.
Can I put a reverse printed cling on the outside of the glass?
Not if you want it to read correctly: from the outside it would read backwards. For the outside, choose Normal, and only on protected glass such as a covered entrance; a cling is not made for rain and wind.
Does a reverse printed cling use white ink?
Yes, where the colors need a solid base. The film is clear, and the proof shows where the white sits.
