Made for glass
How to get it right
Top edge, bottom edge, outside of the glass
Measure the glass from edge to edge, then pick a strip a few inches shorter than that. Either the top edge or the bottom edge leaves the middle of the window open for the mirror. The decal presses onto the outside of the glass, which must be clean, dry and smooth. On White or Clear vinyl, permanent adhesive means one placement, so cut a paper strip at 30 x 6, tape it to the outside of the glass and look at it from the driver's seat and from the sidewalk before you order. A rear wiper needs room: park the blade, mark its sweep with tape and keep the decal beyond it. On White vinyl you will see its plain white back from inside the car.
Length, height and what fits on one line
A 30 x 6 strip is five times longer than it is tall, which fits a business name and a short website on one line. Taller strips block more of the window, so keep the height low and let the length do the work. A name over a phone number needs two lines, so try 24 x 8 and check how much glass it covers. Dark colors read best on the white vinyl; pale colors need a dark outline. For a clean banner, pick a rectangle or a rounded rectangle; to let the lettering stand alone, pick the die cut that follows its outline. Everything prints in full color. A wider window takes a longer strip, and the calculator accepts any exact size from 1 x 3 up to 48 x 80 inches (48 x 48 on Static cling).
One strip per car, and when you want to see through
One strip is one car. A second car is a second piece, and a team or club that shares one design can type any count. A 30-inch strip is longer than 15 inches, so it ships rolled in a sturdy tube. If you want the glass to show around the design, choose Clear vinyl under Material: white ink is printed behind the colors, and the glass stays clear around them. Static cling, the third choice, has no adhesive, is printed Mirror and goes on the inside of the glass; it needs glass that is not tinted. Both ship two business days after approval. PNG, JPEG, PDF, AI and SVG files all work. Check the proof against the length you measured on the glass, and an approved white vinyl order ships the next business day.
Questions people ask about these
Is it legal to put a decal on a rear window?
That depends on where you drive, and we cannot give legal advice. Read your state's rules before you order, and keep the decal clear of the driver's view.
Can I see out through it?
Not through White vinyl, the default: it is opaque, so whatever the strip covers is blocked. On Clear vinyl or Static cling the glass shows around the design. A long, thin strip along one edge keeps the middle of the glass open.
Does it go inside or outside the glass?
White vinyl goes outside, on clean, dry, smooth glass, and the adhesive is permanent. For the inside of the window, choose Static cling under Material: it has no adhesive, is printed Mirror to read from outside and needs glass that is not tinted.
What size rear window decal should I order?
This page opens at 30 x 6 inches. Measure the glass from edge to edge, leave a few inches on each side, and enter that length with the height you want.
Will a rear wiper damage it?
Keep the decal out of the wiper path. A blade that rubs across a decal edge is hard on it, so park the wiper, mark its sweep with tape and place the decal beyond it.
How does a 30-inch decal ship?
It rolls into a sturdy tube and arrives crease-free; only pieces up to 15 inches on the longer side ship flat. US shipping is free, by USPS in 3 to 5 business days with tracking.
