Reverse Print Window Stickers

A reverse print window sticker is printed in mirror image so that, stuck to the inside of the glass, it reads correctly from outside. You do not have to flip anything. Send the design the way people on the street should see it, and we mirror it, lay white under the color so it stays bold, and show it on a free proof. The printed side carries the adhesive. The calculator opens on a 5 x 5 inch die cut.

How to get it right

What reverse printing means

Anything printed to be seen through a pane of glass has to be printed backwards, because the viewer is looking at its face through the back of the sheet. Think of a word on a shop window as read from the street: from inside the shop it looks flipped. Reverse printing prints that flipped version on purpose. Here you never choose it. The mirroring is automatic for this sticker, and the order form has no Mirror setting to set wrongly. The free proof shows the print that will actually be made, so there are no surprises.

Why white goes under the color

Clear film lets the view behind it show through the ink. Without a base, a light color would wash out against a dark room or a bright sky. A white layer is printed first, so the color sits on top of it and stays bold from outside. Where there is no ink, the film stays clear. The proof shows how the print is planned, so you can see where the color and the clear areas fall before anything is made. Dark and saturated colors tend to give the strongest result on glass.

What it looks like from inside, and how to apply it

From the room, the lettering looks backwards. That is correct, and it is why the sticker reads properly outside. To apply it, clean the glass and dry it. Peel the backing and hold the sticker by its edges, because the adhesive is on the printed side. Set one edge on the glass, lay the sticker down and press from the center toward the edges to move air out. Then step outside and look at the result. Take care over the position before you press down firmly, and ask a second person to check it from the street if the glass is large.

Questions people ask about these

What does reverse print mean on a window sticker?

The design is printed as a mirror image, so that when the sticker is stuck to the inside of the glass it reads correctly to people outside. Here it happens automatically, and the proof shows it.

Do I need to mirror my own file?

No. Send it as people on the street should read it. We do the mirroring, and the free proof shows the print that will be made, so you can check it before approving.

Why does my sticker look backwards from inside?

Because you are looking at the back of the design through the sheet. From inside the room the lettering reads in reverse, and from the street it reads correctly. That is how it is meant to look.

Why is there a white layer under the color?

Clear film shows whatever is behind it. White printed under the color keeps the color bold against a dark room or a bright sky when seen from outside.

How is this different from a reverse printed window cling?

A cling has no adhesive; static holds it, so it can be lifted and reused. This sticker has adhesive on its printed side and stays where you press it. Use the cling for signs you change, this sticker for marks that stay.

When is a reverse print window sticker printed and shipped?

The designer sends a free proof, and changes are free. Printing starts 2 business days after approval. Payment is taken once you approve, and USPS delivery costs nothing, with quicker options at checkout.
