How to get it right
What clear film is for
Three jobs suit it. Lettering that should look written on the glass rather than stuck to it, which is what white ink on clear gives you. Decorative artwork where you want daylight and the room to carry through the design. And anything on a mirror, where a solid background would simply look like a rectangle stuck to the glass. For those, clear is not a preference, it is the only sensible option.
Where clear is the wrong call
Text you need a passer-by to read at speed does not belong on clear film unless it is printed in white ink. Without a backing, light colors sit against whatever happens to be behind the glass - a dark shop interior, a bright street, a moving background - and the message gets harder to read exactly when it matters. For opening hours, prices and sale messages, a white backing is the safer choice - either white film, or white ink flooded behind the artwork on clear. That material is covered on its own page.
Sizes, shapes and mirror printing
Sizes run 4" to 48" on the longer side, as a circle, square, rectangle or a die cut following your own outline. If the cling goes on the inside of the glass and is read from outside, it has to be printed mirrored - pick that in the calculator and we confirm the side in the free proof before anything is printed.
Questions people ask about these
Is clear film really invisible?
The film itself reads as glass - what you see is the printed artwork. Held at an angle in strong light you can find the edge, which is why a die cut following the artwork outline looks cleaner than a rectangle on decorative work.
Can you print white on clear film?
Yes. White ink can also be flooded behind the artwork, which turns clear film into a white-backed one - that is how a design stays readable against a dark interior without losing the clean edge.
Clear or white film - which should I choose?
Clear when the glass should still look like glass, or when white lettering is the whole design. White when the message must stay readable whatever is behind it - hours, prices, a sale. Both exist; put which one you want in the order notes and it is confirmed on the free proof before anything is printed.
Does clear film hold as well as white?
Yes. Both are the same static film with no adhesive; the difference is the backing, not the grip. Both want smooth, clean glass.
Can I reuse it?
Yes. Peel it off in one piece, store it flat between two sheets of paper out of direct sun, and put it back up on clean glass later.
How fast is an order?
Two business days in production after the free proof is approved, then free US shipping with 3-5 business days in transit.
