School Window Decals

A 24 x 18 inch decal is a good first size for the main office window or a front-door panel: large enough for the school name to read from the sidewalk and for a line below it such as Main Office or Visitors Check In. White vinyl is solid and covers the view, Clear vinyl lets the glass show around the design, and Static cling sits inside the glass with no adhesive for notices that change. Type the exact width and height of your glass in the calculator. A person checks the size and cut line, then sends a free proof. We print the decal; we do not install it.

How to get it right

Main office, front doors, gym and library

Each piece of school glass has its own job. The main office window tells visitors where to check in, so it carries the school name and the words Main Office. Front doors carry the name and a mascot, and the gym and library glass can carry a team name or a reading slogan in the school colors. Room names and wing names fit narrow glass beside a door. Measure the glass itself, not the frame, leave an inch or two of margin on every side and type the exact width and height. Each design is its own item with its own free proof, so the office and the gym can have different decals in one order.

Solid, see-through or a cling that comes off

White vinyl is opaque, printed in full color under a laminate and waterproof, so it covers the view wherever it sits: use it where you do not need a sightline, and keep it off the part of the office window where staff need to see who is coming. Clear vinyl lets the glass show around the design, with white ink under the colors so white letters stay bright. Static cling has no adhesive: it goes inside the glass, peels off and goes back up, and it is not made for rain or wind. Pick Normal or Mirror print for Clear and cling, and choose Mirror when the decal goes inside and is read from outside.

Seasonal messages without new glass

Some messages are permanent and some change with the calendar. The school name and Main Office belong on vinyl and stay put. An enrollment-open notice, a spirit-week banner or a book fair date belongs on a Static cling inside the glass, where it can be peeled off in June and hung again next year. A decal up to 15 inches ships flat, and a larger one ships rolled in a tube. The product page draws your decal to scale on a shop window next to a person who stands 5'9", which shows how a size looks before you order. Ask your school office who handles putting up signs.

Questions people ask about these

What is the difference between window clings and window decals?

A decal is vinyl with a permanent adhesive, put on the outside face of the glass to stay. A cling has no adhesive and holds to the inside of the glass by static, so it peels off and can go back up. For a school, the name goes on a decal and notices that change go on a cling. Both are choices under Material.

Can I see through a school window decal?

On Clear vinyl and on Static cling the glass shows around the design. White vinyl is opaque wherever it covers, and from inside you see its plain white back. Choose it where you do not need the view.

Can I print my own window decals for the school?

Yes. Send your artwork and type the exact size of the glass. A person checks the size and the cut line and sends a free proof, changes on the proof are free, and you are charged only when you approve it.

What size should a main office window decal be?

Start at 24 x 18 inches for a name and one line, then measure your own glass and type its exact size. Any width and height from 1 x 3 inches up to 48 x 80 inches is possible.

Do you install the decals?

No. We print the decal and ship it. A larger decal comes rolled in a tube, and anything up to 15 inches ships flat.

Can I use the school logo or mascot?

We print the file you send. Use artwork your school has approved; many schools have a brand office that can tell you which logo and which colors to use.
