How to get it right
Why a backing decides whether a message works
A printed color is only as readable as what sits behind it. On clear film, a pale color lands on top of the street or the shop interior and its contrast changes through the day. With a solid white background printed under the design, every color sits on the same white ground, so the design you approved in the proof is the design a customer sees at any hour. For price panels, opening hours, menus and sale messages, that is the difference between signage and decoration.
Where a white background is the wrong choice
On a mirror, and on any design that is meant to look written directly on the glass. There the white backing shows as a rectangle around your artwork and the effect is lost - that work belongs on clear film with white ink. A white background is also heavier visually: on a small pane it can close the window off more than you intended, which is worth thinking about before ordering a large piece for a small storefront.
Sizes, shapes and where it goes
Four inches to 48" on the longer side, as a circle, square, rectangle or a die cut that follows your own outline - a price tag or starburst shape costs the same as a rectangle. A white cling goes on the inside of the glass like any cling, printed mirrored so it reads from the street; that is set in the calculator, and the free proof shows the white background before anything prints.
Questions people ask about these
What is the difference between white and clear cling?
White has a solid backing, so colors stay true and text stays readable whatever is behind the glass. Clear has no backing, so the glass shows through and the artwork sits on whatever is behind it. White ink flooded behind the design on clear film gives the same solid ground where you want it and nowhere else.
Which one do I want for a sale sign?
White. A sale message has to be read at walking or driving speed, and that only works reliably with a solid background behind the print.
Does a white cling block the window?
The printed area does. A large white cling on a small pane will close it off visually, so size it to the message rather than to the glass, or use a die cut that follows the artwork instead of a rectangle.
Is it still removable and reusable?
Yes - same static film, no adhesive, comes off in one piece and stores flat for next time.
Can it go outside the glass?
It is made for the inside. Outdoors it holds only on shaded or protected glass; a fully exposed window wants vinyl stickers instead.
How long does it take?
Two business days in production after proof approval, then free US shipping taking 3-5 business days.
