How to get it right
White on clear: snowflakes that sit on the glass itself
A snowflake works best with nothing around it. The film is clear, and white ink under a white design leaves only the flake on the glass, so the street sees the flake and whatever is lit behind it. A die cut shape follows your outline, points and all, instead of sitting inside a rectangle, and the free proof confirms the cut line before anything prints. White reads best against a dark background behind the glass, such as a dim room; against a brightly lit interior the flakes look softer, and the same proof shows what you will get. For colored flakes, such as pale blue, the artwork prints in color, with white ink under it wherever it needs a solid background.
A window that does not end on December 25
Snowflakes have no holiday attached, which is why they suit places that cannot put up Christmas art: schools, offices, clinics and shops that want a neutral seasonal look. Put them up in the first week of December, leave them through February, and there is nothing to take down on December 26. To have them up before Christmas, approve your proof by about December 9 to be safe; ordered in January, they are still on time for the long cold weeks. The flakes lift off in one piece and lie flat in a box between sheets of paper, so a school or office can keep the whole set for the next winter.
Three sizes and one sign: laying out the window
Real snowflakes are never the same size, and a set that mixes three looks natural. Try one large flake at 18 inches for a corner, a medium at 10 or 12 for the middle, and a small at 6 for the gaps; each size is chosen separately in the calculator, so a mixed set is a few lines in one cart. Keep the center of the glass clear for one cling that carries words, such as the shop name with a winter greeting, printed as its own design. Mirror print is for the inside of glass read from the street; choose Normal for a window read from inside the room, such as a classroom pane.
Questions people ask about these
Can the snowflakes be white?
Yes. The film is clear and white ink can print white shapes and lettering directly on the glass. The free proof shows exactly which parts have white ink, and you can note a preference when you order.
Can I mix sizes of the same snowflake?
Yes. Size is picked by the longer side, from 4 to 48 inches. Each size is a separate line in the cart, so a mixed set is several lines ordered together.
Will a snowflake set work for a school or office window?
Yes. The film holds on smooth glass indoors and peels off with nothing to scrape, and a design with no holiday in it stays neutral through the whole season.
How do I put snowflakes up so they sit flat?
Clean the glass, mist it lightly with plain water (no glass cleaner), lay the cling on while the glass is wet so it slides, then squeegee from the center out. It sets as the water dries.
How long can a winter set stay up?
For as long as your season lasts. There is no adhesive, so it peels off whole whenever you decide, and it stores flat for next winter.
When do I order for December?
For a display that is up before Christmas, approve your proof by about December 9 to be safe. Printing takes two business days and free US shipping 3-5 business days; a faster carrier can be chosen at checkout.
