How to get it right
Serving side and street side
A food truck has two faces. The serving side has the window, the awning and the line of customers. The street side is usually the plainer wall, and it is the one drivers see as you pull in. One decal on each keeps the truck looking planned. On each wall, find the biggest smooth rectangle: no service window, no vent or exhaust grille, no hatch edge, no seam where two panels meet. A ribbed, riveted or heavily textured wall is not a smooth surface, so pick a flat panel or a smaller size. Once it is pressed on, the decal stays where it landed, so tape the outline to the wall and look from across the lot before you peel anything.
Grease, heat and a clean panel
The outside walls of a truck live in kitchen air: grease mist, fryer steam, painted metal baking in the sun. The adhesive grips a clean, dry, smooth wall, so wipe the panel down to remove grease, let it dry completely, and press the decal on when the metal is cool, not straight after a shift. Laminated white vinyl is waterproof: rain and snow roll right off. The decal arrives rolled in a sturdy tube, crease-free. We print, laminate, cut and ship it, and we do not install it, so plan who will put it on and when. Before you order, measure the clear area with a tape and enter that width and height under Other, then press "Try your logo" to see your artwork at that size on the drawing.
A pair per truck, and what stays off the wall
One truck takes two pieces, one for each side. A second truck, or a trailer that travels with it, brings the count to four. Quantity runs 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 on the tiles, and any other number can be typed. If the two sides carry different artwork, each side is its own cart item, because one item holds a single uploaded file. Permanent vinyl is for the logo, not the menu. Menu boards and specials suit window clings, which stick to the inside of the glass by static, so a new menu is a swap. For handouts, see our food truck stickers. The free proof comes first, and nothing is printed until you approve it. The order then ships the next business day, so allow USPS 3 to 5 business days before your first event.
Questions people ask about these
How big should a food truck decal be?
The page opens at 48 x 24 inches, a logo four feet wide for the flat wall beside the service window. Measure the clear space on your truck, then enter that width and height under Other; the longest piece is 80 inches.
Do I need a decal on each side of the truck?
A common setup is one on the serving side and one on the street side. Set the count to two for that, or to 1 if you only want one side.
Is this a vehicle wrap, and do you install it?
No to both. It is a single laminated decal for one flat panel, and we ship it rolled in a tube. Putting it on is up to you or someone you hire.
Can I put my menu on the decal?
Keep the menu off permanent vinyl. Menus and specials change, so print them on window clings for the service window. The decal is for your logo and name.
Will grease or heat stop it sticking?
A greasy or hot wall is the usual problem. Wipe the panel clean, let it dry, and apply when the metal is cool, so the adhesive can grip a clean, dry, smooth surface.
Can I add a permit number or other wording my city asks for?
You can put anything in your design, and we print what you send. Which wording a city or county requires is yours to check.
