How to get it right
Names, date and one small detail
A favor label does three jobs: it says whose wedding it was, it gives the date, and it makes a plain jar look chosen. Keep the layout short. Two first names and the date, joined by an ampersand or a small drawing, read well from a few inches away. A small pun or a line of thanks can sit beneath. Because every label in a design prints the same, the design suits the whole guest list, not individual place cards. Choose the colors from your invitation, and send a file where the outer edge is the shape you want cut.
Match the size to the favor
Measure the part of the favor you want to cover. A honey jar or a candle tin has a flat lid that takes a 2 inch circle. A favor box takes a 3 inch circle or a custom rectangle across the top. A shape other than a circle, such as a heart, a hexagon or the outline of your monogram, is die cut at the same price. Mini bottles take a tall, narrow rectangle on the front. If you are mixing favors, each size is its own item in the cart with its own proof.
Count back from the date
Orders ship the next business day after you approve the proof, and USPS delivery takes 3 to 5 business days. Add the time you need to approve the design, plus the evenings it takes to stick a hundred labels on a hundred jars, and work backward from the wedding date. Approve the design early, because changes to the proof are free until you say yes, and you are charged only when you approve. For most files the proof appears on screen in seconds, so a first look takes a few minutes, not a few days.
Questions people ask about these
What size wedding favor label should I order?
Start at 2 x 2 inches for a jar lid or a small box top, and go up to 3 x 3 inches for a larger box. Measure the surface first and compare it with a paper circle, then adjust the size in the calculator if you need to.
Can the label be a heart or a monogram shape?
Yes. Any outline is die cut at the same price, so a heart, a hexagon or a monogram costs the same as a circle. Send the artwork with that shape as its outer edge, and the proof shows the cut line.
Matte or glossy for wedding favors?
They cost the same. Matte has a soft, elegant look that suits ivory and pastel designs, and glossy makes dark colors and gold tones stand out. Choose one finish for all of your favors.
Can each guest get a different name on their favor?
No. Every label in a design prints the same, so names cannot change from one label to the next. Put your names and the date on the label and give guests a place card or tag for their own names.
How long before the wedding should I order?
The order ships the next business day after you approve the proof, and USPS delivery takes 3 to 5 business days. Order early enough to leave time for approving the design and for applying the labels before the day.
Can I add a QR code to a wedding favor?
Yes. Put the code in your design - a link to a photo gallery or a playlist works well - and leave a plain margin around it. Scan it on the free proof before you approve.
