How to get it right
The menu in the window is the one people read before they walk in
A person deciding whether to eat at your place reads the glass first and the door second. That makes the window menu the highest-traffic piece of print a restaurant owns, and the one that goes out of date fastest, because prices move and dishes come off. On adhesive vinyl that means scraping and reprinting the whole panel. On cling it means peeling one piece off and putting the next one up, which is why menus, price panels and seasonal specials are the work this material was made for.
Delivery badges, hours and the small pieces around the door
Most restaurant glass carries three kinds of print at once: one large panel that does the selling, a set of small badges for the delivery services you work with, and a line of opening hours near the handle. They do not have to be one cling. Ordering them separately means the badges change when you add a delivery partner without touching the menu, and the hours change for a holiday week without touching either. Each piece is its own artwork, its own proof and its own price.
Inside the glass, printed mirrored
Restaurant clings almost always go on the inside of the window, out of the weather and out of reach of the street. That means the artwork has to be printed mirrored, or every word reads backward from the sidewalk. Choose mirror in the calculator and we confirm the side it is going on in the free proof before anything reaches the press. A solid white background is the usual choice here because a menu has to stay readable with daylight behind it; leaving the film clear suits decorative work where you want the room to show through.
Questions people ask about these
Will a cling survive a restaurant window in summer?
On the inside of the glass, yes - that is where static cling belongs and where it holds without adhesive for as long as you want it there. On the outside it holds on shaded or protected glass, but a fully exposed window in wind and rain will lift the edges over time, and for that we would print vinyl stickers instead.
What size should a window menu be?
Work from reading distance, not from the size of the glass. A panel read from the sidewalk a few steps away works at 18" to 24" on the longer side; a full-height door panel goes to 36" or 48". Sizes run from 4" to 48" and the calculator prices each one live, so try two sizes before deciding.
Can I change the menu without buying a whole new window display?
That is the point of the material. Peel the old cling off in one piece, put the new one up, and nothing has to be scraped off the glass in between. If only the prices change, reprinting one panel is cheaper than reprinting the whole window, which is a good reason to split the display into separate pieces from the start.
Do you print white ink so it shows against a dark interior?
A white background printed behind the menu is what keeps it readable whatever is behind the glass; the free proof shows which parts are white and which stay clear. Clear film has no backing, so the street shows through and light colors disappear against a dark room. For a menu, choose white.
How do I get a large cling onto the glass without bubbles?
Clean the glass first - that matters more than technique, because the film attracts dust and one particle stops it clinging evenly. Mist the glass with plain water rather than glass cleaner, put a few drops on the printed side, place the cling while the glass is still wet so it slides into position, then smooth from the center outward with a soft squeegee. Once the water dries it holds on its own.
How fast can I have them?
Two business days in production after you approve the free proof, then free US shipping with 3-5 business days in transit. If the display has to be up for an opening date, count back from that date and leave the proof a day of its own.
